Been Too Long: Undergrad Recordings
Posted on 01. Oct, 2009 by Corey Hartford in Media, Music and Recordings
Life is funny sometimes. For example, my friend Alex and I were like *this* (fingers crossed) when we were growing up. From kindergarten to eighth grade we attended the same school, crashed the same parties, and generally went about life as good ol’ friends. High school diverted our paths until, without us knowing at the time, the University of Texas at Austin brought us back together. Now, the funny part is how we occupied the same campus for two years before knowing the other was most likely walking a mere half-mile away (yeah, it’s a big campus).
Long story short – we finally crossed paths. He is a terrific artist (the kid was always creating something throughout elementary school), and he was generally in favor of some of my recordings he had heard over our meetings. As such, he put in a request for a song. “Sure”, I said, “I’ll write you a song and you can make me a painting”. It was agreed, and I was off. A handful of days later I showed up to his place with this puppy – an ol’ tune about finding friends long lost, picking up the pieces from where they laid years ago as if they were fresh in our mind and ending, ironically, with having to head off again into the very large sea of life in which we all swim.
