The Drive Home: Early Recordings

Funk … I love it. You know, all that “bow-chicka-wow-wow” goodness – yeah, that’s the good stuff.
Like 13.2 million other fourteen year old boys, Jimmy Page (of Led Zeppelin fame) inspired me to pick up my very first guitar. However, it was funk – with its tasty syncopated licks and righteous ‘wah’ action – that really managed to keep those strings firmly locked between my ever-growing hands. For me, nothing was ever “nasty” enough, ya dig? Heck, I even managed to get our high school Jazz Band a reputation for bringing the funk in large doses. Same thing for my school’s gospel choir (I know what you’re thinking here: public school + gospel choir = ??).
The following tune does a fine job expressing my early love for the art of simple-yet-nasty, lick-filled aural landscapes. This song, and the many others on my computer that share its characteristics, laid forth the groundwork for what would become one of my proudest achievements – the sonically-mindblowing, college-era band Phunk and Associates. (those recordings – highly anticipated by our most excellent fans – are soon to come
