Allman Joy: Early Recordings

Allman Joy: Early Recordings

Posted on 28. Aug, 2009 by in Media, Music and Recordings

My parents blessed me with the patience and funding necessary for about six months worth of guitar lessons during eighth grade. Soon after, I struck out into the musical world on my own and diverted much of my attention to the art of sound recording (picking up a bass and a couple drums to bang on along the way). Instructed by the Jedi Master Darrell Bowles, I was always – I repeat, always – drawn to a particularly gorgeous Les Paul that graced the corner of his room. Donning a gold top, a thinner-than-usual body and, oddly enough, stock EMG pickups (81/85) – I vowed during those months that I would own that very model.

Fast forward three years later to Volkswagen of Houston where I, the proud porter (aka ‘car washer’) was able to tuck away enough bread to make such an axe my own, thanks to the wonders of eBay. Not only did it share the exact appearance of my lifetime dream, it was – as fate would have it – the very next model produced after my own Jedi Master’s.  This was the first song I recorded with my new girl; everything she sang felt and sounded like perfection.
